USA Travel Advice

Whilst travelling in the States, one must be aware of the cultural and social differences and the issues you might face when you are travelling there. The following are some general points to keep in mind while making a visit to the United States of America.:
  • There have been reported cases of A (H1N1) swine influenza in all of the 50 states. Be aware of any updates that may be posted in regard to the illness. This information is readily available at the ‘Center for Disease Control and Prevention’ at www.cdc.gov. The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its Pandemic Threat Alert Phase to Level 6. Continue to follow local media reports on the outbreak.

  • There is violent crime in relation to the drug trade that is taking place on the Mexican border states of Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. While there have been foreign victims of this violence, there is nothing that suggests that these victims were targeted because of their nationality. Exercise precaution while visiting these regions and follow the guidelines set by local authorities.

  • The Southern and Atlantic regions of the United States are afflicted by Hurricanes during the month of June through November. Make sure to check local weather forecasts and flight status reports for any delays or cancellations that may occur as a result of these storms.

  • There is a moderate threat from terrorism in the US. Attacks in the country can occur in any place at any time, but are probably most likely to occur in large urban centers and important and strategic economic and political locations. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has raised its terror alert status to “orange” or high for all flights both domestic and international. Be aware of this continual and real threat on your visit to the country.

  • Most travel to the United States is typically safe. Most incidents occurred in New York City, the tourist areas of Florida (Miami and Orlando), Los Angeles and San Francisco. Be aware of your surroundings in large urban areas where the dangers are more prevalent.

  • It is recommended that you purchase comprehensive medical and travel insurance before making your trip to the United States of America. Be aware of exclusions, and that any activities you undertake will be covered by your policy.

Our expert consultants will be glad to advise you on the most appropriate level of insurance that meets your needs for your upcoming travels to the U.S. to avoid any medical mishaps.
