In Belgium, sickness/disability insurance is obligatory. Everybody, employed or not, must be affiliated with a mutelle (co-operative insurance company). The national health system is made up of various health funds that all basically offer the same coverage. Everyone employed by a Belgium company is obliged to join one and contributions are deducted from salary.
Dependants who also reside in Belgium will be included in the health coverage. An EU national who has paid into another European health fund, and has a valid E111 form is entitled to benefits there. Many choose to have an additional private

Health care: Medical care is expensive but of a high standard. There is a reciprocal health agreement with the UK. It allows UK citizens a refund of up to 75% of medical costs. To take advantage of the agreement, UK citizens should obtain form E111 from the post office before departure.
