Health insurance contributions are collected from both employees and employers. The population also pays local and national income tax, which helps to finance the investment costs of healthcare. Patients make co-payments on certain services, including pharmaceuticals, dental care and rehabilitation. Foreigners who contribute to the social security system via deductions from their salaries are also entitled to public hospital treatment. However, an individual must have a work permit before becoming eligible for public healthcare services. Well-trained English-speaking physicians are available in Hungary.
