Health In Hong Kong

Food and Drink

All water in Hong Kong which comes out directly through government mains exceeds the United Nations WHO specification therefore all water in Hong Kong is safe to drink. Most hotels will provide you with bottled water. Milk and dairy products are safe for consumption as they are pasteurised. All local meats, chicken, seafood, vegetables and fresh fruit are safe to eat.

Your Safety

Before you travel to Hong Kong, make sure you are protected against Tetenus (diphtheria, polio and TB). If you are over 55 years old, go to your GP to check if you are still immunised. Another is Typhoid; this protects you from the food and water where the hygiene is poor. Also Hepatitis A & B. Hep. A' can also be transmitted through food and water where Hep. B' is known to be transmitted through sexual intercourse.

Go to your GP around 6 weeks before travelling to have these vaccinations for a safe holiday. Avoid swimming in fresh water; make sure the water in the swimming pool is well chlorinated and well maintained.

Insurance

When travelling to Hong Kong, health insurance is highly recommended. In the main cities and centres the medical facilities are relativity good. In all hotels there will have a list of government-accredited doctors. Brilliant dental care is available and first class western medicine is practiced. Shop around to find the best insurance to cover you.
