France Travel Advice

Whilst travelling to France, you should be aware of the cultural and social distinctions and the possible issues you might face when travelling there. The following are some general points to keep in mind while making a trip to France:
  • There have been confirmed cases of A (H1N1) Swine Flu in France. Please be aware of local media and current health reports for the most recent news on the outbreak. With the World Health Organization (WHO) raising its Pandemic Threat Alert Phase to Level 6, all the necessary precautions should be taken when travelling to France in the near future.

  • While the French government is not currently actively screening passengers arriving from international flights for flu like symptoms, local authorities at ports of entry have the right to separate passengers who they suspect have swine flu, and this will continue to occur on a case by case basis

  • There is a moderate threat from terrorism in France. Attacks could occur at random in locations typically frequented by foreign visitors and expatriates. On December 16th, 2008, a number of explosive devices were found and destroyed at the Printemps Haussman Department store in downtown Paris. There were no injuries reported. Since 2006, there have been a handful of explosions or failed attempts on the island of Corsica. Always be aware of your surroundings, especially in public gathering places and town centers, and be wary of unattended items, packages or baggage.

  • It is mandatory to have a warning triangle and reflective jacket in all vehicles in France. Always check that any vehicles you rent or purchase have these items.

  • It is recommended that you acquire comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling to France. While medical facilities and service are high, cost of services can be expensive. Be sure to check any exclusions, and coverage on any of the activities that you will be undertaking.

Our expert consultants will be glad to advise you on the most appropriate level of insurance that meets your needs for your upcoming travels to France to avoid any medical mishaps.
