Whilst traveling to the Czech Republic, one must be aware of societal differences and the issues that might arise when you travel. The following is some travel advice to keep in mind while making a visit to the Czech Republic:

• There are confirmed cases of Swine Flu (H1N1) in the Czech Republic. Enhancing personal hygiene and wearing a face-mask can help to protect against Swine Flu. If you have flu symptoms, you are advised to stay home and avoid any travel until fully recovered.

• You are advised that floods occurred in the East and North East of the Czech Republic in the Moravia region on 24/25 June 2009. There are currently flood alerts in the Zlin and Southern Bohemia regions. To date, Prague has not been affected.

• There is a low threat from terrorism in the Czech Republic. Please be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.

• You are advised that petty theft is a problem, especially in major tourist areas in Prague. Beware of pickpockets when travelling on public transport and in crowded areas. You are advised to pay particular attention to groups of 9 or 10 people who may try to surround victims and even threaten them with violence.

• You are recommended to obtain a comprehensive travel and medical insurance policy before travelling. You should check any exclusions, and ensure that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake.
