Healthcare (including dental treatment) in the Czech Republic is free to all residents. It is provided through compulsory contributions to a state approved insurance fund. Healthcare costs in the country are well below the European average, yet the standards are comparable to some of the best health centres in Europe. Foreigners with no permanent residency in the Czech Republic or are not covered by a reciprocal agreement between their country and the Czech Republic are not entitled to treatment under the state funded system. They can however join one of two contractual health insurance schemes provided by the General Health Insurance Company (GHIC).
