Alzheimer's Disease is named after Dr. Alois Alzheimer, a German doctor who first identified it in 1906 in the course of an autopsy of a woman to determine what could have caused her “unusual mental illness.” He found “abnormal clumps and tangled bundles of fibers” in the brain which have since come to be seen as signs of AD.
